First Vacation of the Year with Infant = Success!

Jaiden was such a trooper on his first vacation! We left last Wednesday to fly out to Arizona. Our flight was about 4 hours non-stop and we planned it late in the evening in hopes that he would sleep during the flight. He was a little fussy in the beginning before the plane was moving partly because it was so hot when we boarded. We were a bit worried, but as soon as we took off he was asleep until we landed. It couldn’t have gone any better. Throughout our time in AZ, I tried to stick with our routine and keep Jaiden on Michigan time as much as possible. I had stressed so much about the 3 hour time difference, but everything worked out. We have been home for 2 days now and he has settled right back into his normal routine. I always forget that little ones are pretty flexible. We had a lot of fun visiting Ryan & Linley and celebrating Ryley’s first birthday. It’s hard to believe our little niece is a year old already.

Jaiden has learned a few new things this past week or so. My favorite new thing is that he now mimics Kev & I and sticks his tongue back out at us. He studies our faces so intently and then you can see his “ah-ha” moment as he figures out how to do it back. It’s super cute. He also has found a new interest in our dogs and will just start randomly laughing as he sees them running around. Last but not least, he has started to move. He has become quite the little scooter. Diaper changes are becoming slightly more challenging as he is always pushing down on his feet and kicking off. It’s hard to imagine that soon enough we are going to be chasing him all around. Where did my little baby go?!

4 Months Old :)

Happy four months to our little guy! It’s so hard to imagine that a year ago this morning Kevin and I were pacing around the house anxiously hoping to see two little lines tell us that our lives were forever changed. What an amazing and blessed year we have had.

Jaiden had his four month appointment this afternoon and I can assure you all that we have one healthy little boy. He weighs 16 lbs 12 oz (97th percentile) and is 26 ½ inches long (84th percentile). We were given the green light to start rice/oatmeal cereal anytime from now to 6 months. We’re probably going to hold off for a couple more weeks because we’ve got a little vacation coming up, but I can’t wait to see how he does with it. I’m sure we’ll have lots of funny pictures to post. He had to have the next round of shots at this appointment and they were again, absolutely awful. She said to expect a little extra soreness this time around and a slight fever, poor little guy. I made his next appointment for 8am so Daddy could come with us and see how heartbreaking the experience is. I don’t think you can truly understand how awful it is into you witness it, so there’s no getting out of it for him. Jaiden is growing and developing perfectly and the Dr was amazed by his ability to do so many crunches. His little ab muscles are so strong. He’ll be sitting up on his own in no time. Jaiden is quite the little flirt and had the attention of all the nurses and receptionists. He was not shy about showing off his little gummy smile and cute dimples. He is such a happy little guy! The last couple of weeks he has really started to find an interest in his toys. He grabs them, talks to them, and of course puts all of them in his mouth. He has found his hands and will stare at them for minutes at a time, which is always amusing to watch. He is still sleeping through the night which makes for an extremely happy mommy and daddy to play with.

I’m being pretty brave, but have to admit I’m a little nervous about a new adventure coming up this week... Jaiden’s first airplane ride! We are all heading out to Arizona Wednesday to visit Kevin’s brother, fiancĂ©, and our little niece Ryley. Ryley is turning one on the 22nd and we are excited to be there and celebrate with them. I’m terrified of the 3 hour time difference and how it will affect Jaiden’s schedule, especially the nighttime routine. I hope I’m worrying about nothing, but time will tell. I’ll post pictures when we get back.
