Surprise! :)

First of all I’m going to start off by apologizing in advance. There are so many new things going on, so I have an inkling that this is going to be a LONG post. Hope you all have time :)

First things first... we are beyond thrilled to finally be able to announce that BABY #2 IS ON THE WAY! Most of you know majority of the story but for those who don’t, I’ll sum it up for ya. It was definitely a surprise, welcomed, but still a surprise, so when I first saw the two little pink lines staring up at me I immediate panicked because I had absolutely no idea how far along I was (I haven't had a period since last March before getting pregnant with Jaiden). How did I know to take a test?! Kevin and I opened up a bottle of wine with dinner, and I took ONE small sip and my stomach flipped. I ran upstairs and took a test (keep in mind I didn’t even mention to Kevin what I was doing because I honestly thought there was no way). Needless to say—I was wrong :) We called the doctor and had an ultrasound scheduled for the following week. We went in for the prenatal intake (even though we just went through all the dos and don’ts for pregnancy, they require it again) and then had the ultrasound. Long story short, we saw a sac... but it was empty. No yolk, no fetal pole, nothing. She was pretty sure that I had miscarried and prepped me on the events to come along with it. I was to call as soon as I had cramping/bleeding. They scheduled a follow up ultrasound for 2 weeks later (Friday the 10th) and all I could do up until then was wait. Ugh. The two weeks between the ultrasounds was by far the hardest time of my life. Being told that you have potentially lost a little one is beyond devastating. I feel for everyone that’s had a miscarriage. I can only imagine. They monitored beta hcg levels which all indicated good news, but you weren’t there at the first ultrasound looking at an empty sac. To make a long story short we had the follow up ultrasound Friday and as soon as she put the device to my belly we saw a yolk, baby, and a flicker... baby’s heartbeat (139bpm). She then did an internal ultrasound to measure baby and verify dates and everything is perfect. I worried for absolutely nothing—it was just too early to see anything the first time around. Baby #2 will be making his/her debut at the end of April. We couldn’t be more thrilled! Jaiden and #2 will be just over 16 months apart and we can already see them being the best of buds. Everything is still sinking in, but we are so excited to add another sweet little face to love to the family. Kevin and I had been talking about how far along we wanted the kiddos to be and I always said I wanted them close. I’m preparing myself for a hectic first year with the two... but after the first year is up it’s going to be a piece of cake. Having a 1 and 2 year old, then 2 and 3 year old, and so on will be absolutely perfect. I know I’ve said it a million times, but we have been so blessed. God is great.

Other news... Jaiden is on the move. Within days he went from getting onto all fours, to scooting backwards, to rocking back and forth, to being a speedy little crawler. Everyone warned me that it was around the corner and that I needed to baby proof the house... did I listen?! No. I’m paying the price now. We’ve been so stressed the last few weeks, but I need to get on it, and fast. Jaiden of course loves getting into whatever it is that he shouldn’t... DVD player, candles, picture frames, cords, decorations and so much more. Luckily Kevin is taking a few days off this week and baby proofing is at the top of the list.

Going back a few weeks to Jaiden’s hives and fever... they were able to put an entire “oat” category on the list and the results all came back negative. This is great news because until you’re really paying attention you have no clue how many things have oats in them! Life could’ve gotten pretty hectic for us. Lucky for us we can now cross it off the list as a possible allergy. Bad news, we’re back at square one. We haven’t had any other reactions so we’re just thankful for that. We’ll talk to the pediatrician more at his 9 month appointment. As soon as Jaiden recovered from that junk, we all went through an awful 24 hour violent stomach bug. Listening to your 8 month old vomit through the night is beyond heart retching. He was put on the pedialyte & BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) and recovered much faster than I did. It was a rough couple days as it passed through each of us.

Jaiden is now waving although most of the time he won’t do it unless his thumb is in his mouth. THAT THUMB! I swear it has to be sugar coated or something! If he’s not sucking his thumb he is grinding his teeth- and I’m honestly not sure which is worse! We’ve also heard lots of new “words” over the past few weeks; boo, ohhh, dog (minus the g), ya, ga, hiiiiii, and still the nonstop dada. No mama yet. His favorite thing at the moment is our dogs. He loves crawling into the dogs beds, starring over at us, and laughing hysterically. Bella loves the company, Mookie on the other hand... not so much. He usually bolts as soon as Jaiden is making his way over. I’m sure once Jaiden learns how to “be nice to the dogs” Mookie will enjoy a cuddle buddy, but until then, I don’t blame him. Jaiden loves to pinch him, pull his ears & tail, and grab fistfuls of fur. He’ll learn! Last but not least, Jaiden is pulling himself up on everything! He loves standing in his crib, although sometimes he forgets he still has to hold on to the rail and takes a little tumble backwards. I hate to think of how soon our little guy is going to be walking. I’m so not ready for that yet.

I’ve been working hard on editing all the pictures of monkey that I took downtown a few weeks ago and have set a goal of making sure I’m done by Wednesday. I’ll post lots of pictures in the next couple days. I love so many of them and have had a rough time narrowing any out... I'm so behind. I have pictures from Jaiden's first trip to the zoo, first carousal ride, fun day at the fair, and a trip to the children's museum. Jaiden starts his first swim class Wednesday!!! I’ll usually be the one to get in the water with him, but for the first class I’m taking pictures. Check back for tons of photos later on this week.
